When Helvetia was first published in 2011, it was available only in German, and many board gamers outside Europe missed out on this unique game. We believed board gamers around the world were missing a lot and decided to give this hidden gem the polish it deserved.

This is not a reprint. Just as with Nippon: Zaibatsu, our development team, led by Alex Irons, worked hand in hand with Matthias to carefully preserve the best ideas from the original Helvetia while reworking and updating other elements to create a modern, dynamic edition of the game.
We’re organizing a meet-and-greet with Matthias Cramer at SPIEL Essen this year! You’ll have a chance to check the early prototype version of the new edition, ask questions about the updated game, and maybe even learn something we haven’t shared publicly yet. The details will be available later on BGG.
Here’s what to expect:
- Streamlined and refined mechanisms: Less tinkering, more playing.
- New player counts: Build your town solo or bring up to five players to the table.
- Variety is the key: Modules and events change the challenges, opportunities, and ways your town develops, so no two games feel the same.
- Interaction on your terms: Exploit every opportunity to disrupt your opponents in a cutthroat game, or focus on peaceful development in a more relaxed Eurogame.
- Interconnected rhythms and cycles: Everything, from your villagers to the market, follows its own rhythm. Learn to synchronize these cycles and make the most of every opportunity.
- No single winning strategy: Adapt as the game progresses, rethink your plans, and find your way forward even when things don’t go as expected.
- A dynamic, variable market: A changing economic landscape offers new opportunities for players who know how to make the most of them.
- Quality-of-life improvements: Updated mechanisms make Helvetia feel like a modern game without losing what made the original distinctive.
Why Kickstarter?
Rebuilding a game from the ground up is always a leap of faith. Bringing Helvetia to Kickstarter helps make this new edition a reality, and everyone who’s going to support this will get access to special extras:
- Free and exclusive content created specifically for the campaign.
- Premium components, including multipart building miniatures and other deluxe upgrades.
- Worldwide shipping and early fulfillment. Backers will receive their games before Helvetia reaches retail.
The campaign is scheduled for Q1 2027.
